| The house is on the edge of the village of Venta Micena, ten kilometres from the historic town of Orce in north-eastern Granada. The town has a Moorish castle and a fascinating museum, plus a beautiful old church, and there are shops, banks, and excellent bars and restaurants, as well as a weekly market. | Fifteen kilometres in the other direction is the unspoilt wilderness of the natural park of the Sierra de Maria. This is a dramatic landscape of forests & mountains, which rise to a height of over 2000 metres. There are numerous tracks and pathways where you can walk for miles with little likelihood of meeting other people. | |

location and the area |

| Twenty-five minutes drive away is the regional centre of Huescar, another historic town with a greater range of shops , busy
restaurants & bars. This is an ideal place to sit outside a street cafe and
watch the world go by, or relax in one of the many bars where
free tapas are served with every drink. A bustling market every Thursday fills the streets and squares and is a great place to soak up the atmosphere of 'real' Spain. |
To the north is the vast natural park of the Sierras de
Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, another region of forests & mountains, famed
for its wildlife. Between Huescar & the park is the highest mountain of the
area, La Sagra and there are signed footpaths to the top, should you have
the energy. A drive in any direction will take you through stunning scenery and you will encounter little other traffic. |
